The small Kome-No-Megumi ("Blessing of Rice") candles are handmade by Takazawa Candle, one of the oldest producers of traditional Warosoku—Japanese candles. Warosoku are crafted from natural, plant-based wax, with rice bran wax derived from a byproduct of rice production used in this case. The wick, made by wrapping dried reed around a washi paper cylinder, produces a tall, bright flame. Using plant-based wax also results in candles that emit less soot and minimal smoke.
