Rentaro Arakawa
Deeply influenced by the natural landscape of Minami-Izu, where he spent his childhood, Arakawa captures the beauty of nature’s aging process in his creations. Inspired by fallen trees, withering wood, and the weathered surfaces of stones, he is drawn to materials with character—worm-eaten textures, natural holes, and hollowed-out forms—shaping them by hand and on a woodturning lathe. His signature finishes, created with urushi lacquer, jinoko (clay powder), and tin, reflect the beauty he once saw in well-worn lacquerware and the ever-changing forms of nature.
